Out of 24 food establishments inspected by the Pinal County health department July 16-Aug. 15, 11 did not escape with perfect marks.

Say Sushi was marked as “needs improvement” because of a problem that could not be corrected during inspection. The restaurant had a serious issue with a walk-in cooler, which had been holding food at 55-60 degrees F instead of the required maximum of 41. Food had to be moved to a reach-in refrigerator while a service call was made for the cooler.

Among those labeled “satisfactory,” Wal-Mart and its deli, bakery and in-store McDonald’s were marked down for having hand-wash sinks incapable of holding water at minimum 100 degrees. The inspector also reviewed its fecal/vomit policy with the store. The deli also had to review its policy for handling raw chicken in the rotisserie.

Good 2 Go convenience store had an issue with its nacho cheese dispenser, which initially did not work “and then a quarter-size brown emission occurred.”

Sunrise Café had food containers not date marked, a slip that was corrected during inspection. The person in charge was required to contact the inspector within two weeks with date of enrollment for an employee taking a food-manager course, which was described as a repeat violation since December.

Native Grill & Wings had a cold-holding prep table holding food at 53-60 degrees, and food had to be discarded. A walk-in had raw chicken stored in one side and alcohol containers in the other, a violation. The inspector also provided a handout on fecal/vomit cleanup policy and a hand-wash sticker at the bar.

Freddy’s also reviewed the policy for cleaning up vomit and fecal matter with the inspector.

Carl’s Jr. and Starbucks at Maricopa Station were given “S” ratings without described violations.
