State Route 347 between Maricopa's city limits and Casa Blanca Road just experienced its second bad accident in less than 15 hours.

The highway is currently closed in both directions due to a multi-vehicle accident that occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Preliminary reports from Maricopa Police indicate the collision included a rollover in which a vehicle struck a tanker truck full of fuel. Hazardous materials units are on the scene, and there are no reports of serious injuries.

Maricopa Police Chief Kirk Fitch estimates it will be “at least an hour or two” before the accident is cleared.

Southbound SR 347 traffic should take Riggs Road or Casa Blanca Road east to I-10. Northbound traffic should take Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway east to Val Vista Drive to reach I-10.

Just before midnight, in almost the same spot, a suspected drunk driver struck another vehicle causing it to roll and eject passengers. One person was killed in the accident.

Additional information will be published when available.
