Zumba has been in Maricopa since 2009 and has grown from one class a week to around 15 classes with five certified instructors. Zumba eliminates the “work” from “working out” by combining Latin and international music with dynamic, yet simple, exercise moves using a unique intermittent training format.
A Zumbathon will be held in Maricopa on July 30 from 9-11 a.m. at the ACTS Christian Center, 19756 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 108.
This is in honor of National Dance Day and gives everyone the opportunity to get up and move and embrace the joy of dance. The event is in honor of a great dancer and dear friend, Erica, who died in December from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This Zumbathon will be a great way to celebrate her life and joy of dance and bring in some donations for a possible cure for this disease. This two-hour Zumba master class will begin with a breakdown of the basic Zumba steps. If participants are brand new to Zumba, they won’t feel intimidated to come and join the fun.
A one-hour Zumba class can burn up to 800 calories.
Participants should dress in comfortable workout gear, bring plenty of water and a sweat towel.
Space is limited. To sign up or for more information, contact Courtney Lucero at firstname.lastname@example.org or 480-235-3880. If you cannot attend the Zumbathon but are interested in Zumba, check out the weekly classes Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. or Saturday at 9 a.m.
