A field trip to Knott’s Berry Farm to learn about the relationship between force and motion by calculating the velocity of a roller coaster and adding an air rifle program to Junior ROTC are two of the items the MUSD governing board will consider Wednesday.
The board meets at 6 p.m. in the Maricopa Unified School District Administration Building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.
Governing board members are set to vote on an eighth-grade Desert Wind Middle School trip May 18 and May 19 to Knott’s Berry Farm. Students will construct a map of their route, learn how to behave on an outdoor field trip, and solve conversion problems, including the roller coast velocity.
Cost of the bus trip is $130 per student, and each student will have the chance to participate in several approved fundraisers to cover the whole or partial cost of the trip. Many of the Junior ROTC programs in Arizona offer the Civilian Marksmanship air rifle program under consideration Wednesday.
With parental permission and completion of an eight-hour safety class, cadets will use the Daisy 853 Air Rifle.
Deputy Superintendent Ember Conley is scheduled to talk about student discipline and homework policies, the March 1 Art Walk and the March 29 grand opening of the Performing Arts Center, among other subjects, during the governing board meeting.
