John Nixon, community services director for the city of Maricopa, will resign effective March 2.

His resignation was announced in an email Tuesday sent to city staff by City Manager Brenda Fischer.

City spokeswoman LaTricia Woods said today the city does not make an external announcement when an employee resigns and provided no further information on his resignation.

She said the city will begin recruiting for a new community services director.

Nixon, who frequently made presentations at city council meetings, was hired in December 2009 after a national recruiting search.

He came to Maricopa with 23 years of experience in government operations, serving in a variety of positions working on projects such as recreation programming, special events, departmental management, grant writing, and park planning and construction.
