This Saturday Chief Steve Stahl of the Maricopa Police Department will be hosting Coffee with the Chief as part of an ongoing event the second Saturday of each month.
Stahl encourages residents to take part in this event “to help themselves and their police department in crime fighting endeavors.”
The department’s philosophy of crime prevention through environmental design will be discussed this month.
Sgt. Stephen Judd said the presentation will focus “on how people can use this type of philosophy and methodology to make their homes and or their businesses more secure.”
“We’ll probably talk about different kinds of locks and different things you can do to help secure your windows and doors,” Judd said.
Other areas of crime prevention through environmental design to be discussed will include proper lighting and proper trimming of bushes, as well as how to make a home look occupied when residents are away.Although future topics to be discussed are voted on by attendees of the previous Coffee with the Chief, Judd said attendees are welcome to ask questions and share any concerns or input they might have.
Attendees must bring their own coffee. The event will be 8 to 9 a.m. at the Maricopa Public Library, 41600 West Smith-Enke Road.
