Black Friday is only a few weeks away, but Maricopans can prepare for the holiday shopping season by attending Coffee with the Chief at the Maricopa Public Library 8 a.m. Saturday.

Chief Steve Stahl will discuss shopping safety.

“It’s important that people learn how not to be a victim,” said Sgt. Hal Koozer, MPD spokesman.

“I think people get comfortable with their surroundings and aren’t aware of what they can do (to protect themselves.”

Topics to be discussed include being aware of one’s surroundings, vehicle security and credit card fraud.

The holidays are when most people shop for their loved ones, but it’s also “the time of year criminals will focus on,” Koozer said.

The monthly sessions, which take place the second Saturday of the month, are a chance for people to ask questions and discuss topics with Stahl in a casual environment.

The topics are selected by attendees.

Coffee with the Chief is 8-9:30 a.m. Participants are invited to bring their own coffee.

More information is available by calling 520-316-6868.
