Spring training apparently not for everyone

Maricopans apparently aren’t a spring training kind of crowd when it comes to attending Cactus League games now underway at baseball stadiums throughout the Valley.

Or, they just have bosses who don’t understand the importance of letting people off work to see their favorite players or new prospects from any of the 15 teams competing locally.

Seventy percent of the 249 respondents to InMaricopa.com’s poll on the number of spring training games people are planning to catch said they wouldn’t be going to any.

The other stats break down like this:

  • 27 percent planned to go to one to three games
  • 3 percent to four to eight games
  • 0 to nine games or more. (We actually know someone who is going to 11. He’s from out of town).

A record-breaking 1.68 million people attended Cactus League spring training last year, many to see famed-first baseman Albert Pujols jump from the Saint Louis Cardinals to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
