Nicholas Sheppard is hoping to take his game from the court and classroom to city hall. Sheppard, a teacher and coach who moved to Maricopa 2012, played eight years in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, LA Lakers and Toronto Raptors, according to a statement announcing his candidacy.

Education: AA Advertising, Pepperdine University

Hometown: Los Angeles

Profession: Teacher, coach, mentor, minister 

Prior elected office held: None

Community involvement: Anything youth, all sports, mentoring

Hobbies: Fishing, biking, cooking, reading, all sports

Why are you running? I am running for the dignity of the office, while working for the people and youth of this city to bring the resources needed to have a great city to live in.

What differentiates you from your opponents? My attention to details, ability to work under pressure and still perform, willingness to ask the tough question, a team player that can lead by example.

What qualifies you to serve in this capacity? Ability to be a problem solver while thinking critically through an issue, leading through example.

What will you do for Maricopa if elected? Work hard for the people and for the youth with the best of my God-given ability.

What do you like most about campaigning? Getting to know the people of this great city, allowing them to know that they have the support and an ear that will always listen to their needs and wants.

What do you like least about campaigning? Nothing; I find it exciting.

What politician do you admire most, and why? For me I take something for them all as I look to be the best of them all.

What is your favorite sports team? Los Angeles Lakers

What is your favorite drink? A good fresh Cup of OJ
