03/11/2010 1:13 PM Alert

With everything else being said, I voted for the override, my husband voted for the override, and it lost.

We have always supported MUSD but yesterday, we enrolled our daughter in Mountain Pointe for next year.  I wanted to give MHS the benefit of the doubt and hoped for the best.  But now that I believe things will not get better, I am not willing to risk her education.  My son, who will be a Senior next year, will still attend MHS.  He is dead set against leaving MHS.  It's ok, he is a good student and planning on going to College.  Do I think he received a "bad" education from MHS?  No.  Could he have received a "better" one somewhere else?  Maybe (most likely).  Fact is, I'm not willing to leave my daughter there on the "off chance" that they manage to squeak through. (and Mountain Pointe has such an extensive course selection compared to Maricopa)

P.S. - Although I understand and appreciate his honesty, Moin's comments in another thread about how it's not his job as a teacher, to educate my children really got me thinking.  Hope all the teachers at MHS don't feel this way.

Just my opinion.

As a police officer, is it not their job to police?

As a fire fighter, is it not their job to put out fires?

As a teacher, is it not their job to teach?

If teachers aren't there to teach, then what are kids (and teachers for that matter) doing in school again????

These are both grossly misrepresentative of what I said. I never said that it's not a teacher's job to teach. Of course it is; nobody would argue otherwise. What I rejected was the notion that bad student outcomes necessarily denote that teachers didn't teach or that they taught poorly.

Agreed.  A bad student could be the result of the parent, the teacher, the student themself, or any combination of the three.  But I never heard a teacher take responsibility for a bad student, only the good ones.   "Oh that was my student!"   "Oh, that one.  He has bad parents.  Not my fault."

Parents have a lot more influence on thier child than a teacher with 160 students.  For a parent to point at the schools and say "it's their fault" is disengenuous, at best.

Disengenuous isn't the word I would use, it's more like irresponsibile. It's those same parents that don't do much with their kids that always point the finger at the teacher or school.

There are bad teachers in every school district, some that shouldn't be teaching but they are in the minority.

Jason do you even have kids?  I volunteer at 2 of the elementary schools here and I've seen a few teachers that have taken the time to tutor some of the troubled kids after class and during the teachers lunch break.

68 degrees and beautiful weather in Pine.

Heading to the Gulf Coast on Thursday to do some volunteer work.

So good parents should home school if the teachers are bad..........and bad parents should let good teachers teach their kids..........

But if a kid just doesn't want to learn then what are ya gonna do?

What if your kid is great but the rest of the students are not up to par?

That's cool, those teachers should get a raise.  Fire the crappy ones and split their pay among the good teachers.  I am all for that.

Oh boy here we go with the home schooling again. Most kids will want to learn, even the troubled ones. If the teacher will take the time, to help some along the way. It's a win win for the student and teacher. If the kid is not interested and disrupts the class, it is more work for the teacher.

So angry aren't you?  You want to abduct my daughter or something?  Go take your van somewhere else.  Kudos to not staying on topic.  Glad you aren't my kid's teacher.

lol remember I said pets don't count.  You don't have any kids.  I didn't think you would be lying about this.  Makes you wonder if you'd lie to people in person.
