Curves donates food to area churches

Members of Maricopa’s Curves fitness center are giving back to their community. They are donating non-perishable items for an area food drive.

Beginning March 1 members who work out at least three times a week and bring in their food items are eligible for a free Curves T-shirt. According to Dawn Johansen, a facilitator at the local center, “The response has been tremendous.”

The food drive will last until March 31. Then all food items will be divided up and donated to local churches so they may help needy families in the Maricopa area.

Curves, located in the Bashas’ Fiesta Shopping Center, opened at the end of July last year. Melissa Kunz owns the local franchise where women can exercise in a friendly, air-conditioned facility.

Curves, a 30 minute fitness program that is designed to be completed in three sessions per week, also promotes strength training and weight-loss guidance. The fitness center is open at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday until as late as 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 7 p.m. on Fridays. Curves is also open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon. It is closed on Sundays.

It is still possible to join Curves. Give them a call at 568-0202. If you are already a member, don’t forget to bring in your food donations to aid Maricopa’s less fortunate families.
