Bridger Kimball 1,482[/quote_box_right]In the early counting in the General Election, a budget override for Maricopa Unified School District is struggling against the opposition. No votes have 51 percent of the total so far.

The City of Maricopa is having an easier time of it trying to pass its General Plan. The Yes votes lead with 84 percent of the vote.

With four people running for four seats on the Maricopa City Council, former councilmember Julia Gusse leads all with 2,051, and incumbent Vice Mayor Marvin Brown is in second with 1,900.

With 101 of 102 precincts reporting in Pinal County, Republican Mark Lamb has a lead of more than 5,000 votes over Democrat Kaye Dickson in the race for sheriff.

Lamb leads with 56 percent.

For incumbent Assessor Douglas Wolf, a Republican, the lead is even greater over Democrat Jacqueline Minto, 24,762 to 17,975.

In the District 11 state races, incumbent Republican Sen. Steve Smith is holding a strong lead over Ralph Atchue with 56 percent of the vote. Over in the House, Democrat Corin Hammond is giving incumbents Mark Finchem and Vince Leach a run but still trails both.

In federal races, Democrat Tom O’Halleran is outpacing Republican Paul Babeu in the Congressional District 1 race, 50 percent to 44 percent. John McCain is ahead in his attempt to keep his U.S. Senate seat with 52 percent of the vote against Ann Kirkpatrick.

Arizonans are leaning for Donald Trump for president. With 23 percent of the vote in statewide, the Republican hopeful has 49 percent of the vote to Hillary Clinton’s 46 percent.
