Easter Seals sponsoring workshops in early childhood language, play

Young children learn through play and expressing themselves, even prior to developing actual ‘language’ skills.

The Easter Seals Blake Foundation’s Project Me Too! will offer early childhood education enrichment workshops on Saturday, April 17, from 1-5 p.m. at the Vista Grande Library, 1556 N. Arizola Rd., in Casa Grande.

The first workshop, titled “The Hundred Languages of Children” is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Based on the Reggio Emilia child-centered approach, the session will explore the many ways children communicate, aside from language. It will focus on the ‘hundred languages’ children use to express themselves and speak with adults, as well as the role of teachers and parents in helping children express themselves successfully.

“All They Do is Play,” the second workshop, will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. It will explore what children learn from play and what they can gain from activities such as block building, climbing and running. How to create enriching play environments, and their importance, will be explained for both teachers and parents.

To register for either or both of these workshops, call 1-866-9 TRAIN 9 or e-mail [email protected].
