By Dan Frank

As one of seven candidates for three City Council seats, I want to outline my qualifications and tell you why I am the best candidate for the position. For me, this is more like a job application than political election. I feel the citizens of Maricopa deserve better; we deserve the best, most qualified people as our city leaders. Here is why I believe I am the ideal candidate.

Education: I have a BS in Engineering from ASU with coursework in urban planning, transportation design, hydrology and hydraulics, to name a few.

Experience: I worked for a Phoenix-based civil engineering firm for 16 years as a registered professional engineer. My project resume includes water masterplans for various cities, highways and freeways for ADOT, runways at Sky Harbor, and flood control projects for Maricopa County. In 2008, I became Drainage & Flood Control Practice Leader, a VP of the company.

I have volunteered extensively within the public works community, serving as chair of the Legislative Issues Committee for the Arizona Floodplain Management Association and was a presenter on storm water safety at an AFMA regional conference. I also volunteered with the City of Scottsdale to help re-write their Stormwater and Floodplain Ordinance.

I am also a volunteer with the Central Arizona Mountain Rescue Association, where I served as secretary and president. I maintain my Wilderness EMT certification and am a member of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Mountain Rescue Posse, where I have received multiple recognition awards for outstanding volunteer service. I have been on numerous searches and rescues throughout Arizona, working with almost every law enforcement agency to help save lives and bring loved ones home.

My entrepreneurial spirit led me to start my own business in 2012 where I combine my engineering and real estate backgrounds and continue to work as a consultant on a variety of projects.

My experience volunteering for the City of Maricopa is extensive. In 2005, I joined the Public Works (currently the Transportation Advisory) Committee, which I chaired from 2008 to 2012. In 2014, I was one of four candidates for a City Council seat which had been vacated. I am honored to say that I was appointed to fill that vacancy based on my qualifications.

Following completion of my Council term, I was honored by Mayor Price to be appointed as chair of the Maricopa 2040 Vision Committee, a citizen-led initiative which identified goals and future direction for Maricopa that directly tie-in to Maricopa’s guiding documents, such as the Strategic & General Plan.

In 2015, I was elected to the Maricopa Flood Control District by a landslide vote. Upon taking office, I was elected president by the board and continue to serve in that capacity today.

These are a summary of my qualifications. My diversity, education and experiences make me the best overall candidate for City Council. I’m applying for this job because I want to work hard for you.

Please vote for Dan Frank. Thank you.
