A Go Fund Me account has been set up for the Maricopa family injured in a collision that resulted in the arrest of a six-time deportee.

The single mother and her two children, age 5 and 2, were injured in the July 4 crash on Papago Road. The 5-year-old boy and his mother had to be air-lifted to the hospital.

The incident made national news because the driver being blamed for the collision, 29-year-old Manuel Perez-Vasquez, reportedly had been deported six times since 2012 and allegedly had marijuana in his system. His arrest coincided with the San Francisco arrest of a five-time deportee on murder charges, sparking heated political debate about border security.

After the crash, Perez-Vasquez allegedly ran from the scene with at least one other person but then returned and was taken into custody.
