Holiday Homes on Parade coming to Maricopa

Santa and his reindeer? The elves making toys in Santa’s workshop? The nativity? Snowmen? Lots of lights and wreaths?

Any and all of these scenes can soon be displayed in the yards of Maricopa residents. Think of making the season bright, and then watching as children and adults walk or drive by, pointing at your beautiful lights and decorations. Holiday Homes on Parade is coming to Maricopa!

It may seem that this event is rushing the Yuletide season. After all the pumpkins and bats are still on store shelves. Still, it takes time to plan out displays, check lights and put up all the elements of a decorating design.

Holiday Homes on Parade is designed to capture the holiday spirit. The city’s Parks, Recreation and Libraries (PRL) Department is sponsoring this holiday parade for the first time in Maricopa. The event needs 75 families who will agree to brighten the exterior of their homes with lights and decorations, but NO music.

All interested families must register with the Parks and Recreation Department no later than Friday, November 4. This allows enough time for signs and maps to be printed.

Decorations must be in place by Monday, November 28. Starting on that date, through Friday, December 16, residents can drive around, following a map provided by the city, view the decorations and vote for their top displays online. If you don’t have computer access, you can cast your vote at City Hall.

The first place winner will receive a $250 gift certificate, while second place takes home a $150 gift certificate. Third place wins a $100 gift certificate. All gift certificates will be to Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.

Start planning now. How many lights will you need? Where should the snowman be placed? Is there room for all the reindeer, even Rudolph? Be a participating home in Maricopa’s first Holiday Homes on Parade.
