Storm clouds are moving over Maricopa, expected to bring heavy precipitation this week.

The remnants of Hurricane Rosa in the Pacific is bringing rain across Arizona, initiating a flash flood watch in northwest Pinal County.

The watch will be in effect from Monday morning through late Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood watch means flooding of washes, creeks and other drainage areas is possible within the watch area. Locations in the watch area that are most likely to experience flash flooding will be poor drainage areas and normally dry washes near higher terrain.

If you are in the watch area, you should watch the weather and be prepared to take immediate action should heavy rain and flooding occur or a flash flood warning be issued.

NWS is forecasting thunderstorms to start tonight after 11 p.m. Rains are expected to continue through Wednesday, accumulating up to 2 inches. The chance of rain is 90 percent Monday night and 80 percent Tuesday.

There are sand bags located at each fire station and fire administration as well. There is a limit of eight sand bags per family.

Sand is located on the west side of the city (in front of the old city hall) on the corner of Madison Ave near Wilson Road.

Residents can pick up the bags at the designated locations and will need to bring their own shovel to fill the bags at the sand pile location.

Emergency Operations Center personnel will be monitoring the weather during this time period and will update the community as necessary.
