Jackson: Buss should be thanked for job well done

Much has been made regarding City Manager Rick Buss’ decision to step down from his current position to that of an Assistant City Manager position. Rick is making the decision for very personal reasons regarding his family situation and his children. No one really has the right to question these motives.

Rather than thanking Rick for a job well done it seems there are people that choose to question what is happening. I think it is always helpful to look at where we started and where we are now when asking these questions. Maricopa has been offering city services for only three years. During this time period the community experienced unprecedented growth and was still able to accomplish a tremendous amount under Rick’s leadership.

These accomplishments include hiring a staff, starting a police department, merging a fire district, obtaining voter approval for a property tax shift, and development of a General Plan. These are but a fraction of the accomplishments but are a sample of the leadership Rick has provided.

I know that the decision to step down was a difficult one to make for Rick. I wish him well as he helps our community grow into the next decade and just want to say “thank you” for a job well done under extremely difficult circumstances.
