The Maricopa Chamber of Commerce’s deadline to register for its “Night of Heroes” event is Friday.
The annual community awards banquet is scheduled for Jan. 24 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the ballroom at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino.
Besides the awards, there will be an auction to raise money for a new Maricopa High School scholarship. Auction items include “A Day with a Cop” courtesy of the Maricopa Police Department and a chance at two dinners for four prepared by the Maricopa Fire Department.
The community awards are in seven categories. The final nominees are:
Renate Chamberlin Volunteer of the Year – Brenda Campbell, Lee Anne Clark and Tom Dugan
Nonprofit of the Year – Kid’s Day Maricopa, Mountain View Community Church Food Bank and Recycling Association of Maricopa/ECO Center
Educator of the Year – Susana Buhisan of Butterfield Elementary, Betty Graham of Pima Butte Elementary and, Deborah Kohls of Maricopa Elementary
Civil Servant of the Year – Rocky Brown, John Janzen and Mary Witkofski
Sonny Dunn Citizen of the Year – Torri Anderson, Edward Farrell and Rich Vitiello
Small Business of the Year (10 employees or less) – Copa Craze, Crate Coffee and Hey Maricopa TV
"The Waz" Business of the Year – Dignity Health Urgent Care, Maricopa Banner Health and UltraStar Multi-Tainment Center
