After years of hosting a Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial event, Legacy Traditional School opted to strike out on its own with a speech contest its staff created called “The Great Communicator Lincoln Speech Contest.”

Feb. 21, the first winner of the contest was Molly Auer. In second place was seventh grader Mia Chavez, who finished third in last year’s Modern Woodmen contest. Alanna Mullins was in third.

Participants in the 2018 contest.

The top three students won cash prizes and Olympic-style medals. First place earned $100, second place $75 and third $50. All participants received a pin.

The speech topic was “Is Technology a Blessing or a Curse?”

Students were scored on the content of the speech and their delivery.
