The Maricopa Little League Softball All-Star team saw their season come to a close with a 4-2 loss against Casa Grande in Monday’s divisional championship game.

“This was the furthest we had made it as a team in two years,” said Maricopa head coach Eugenia Johnson. “It was very fun and rewarding for parents, players and myself.”

The game remained scoreless until Casa Grande brought home a run in the first inning and then three more in the fifth.

The Maricopa team attempted to rally in the fifth and last inning, but could only muster two runs before a fly out ended the girls’ championship aspirations.

“For a while there it got really exciting, and we thought we would make a dramatic comeback, ” Johnson said.

The softball team was the last Maricopa Little League All-Star team still in playoff competition.
