Maricopa High School boys and girls basketball teams are playing in section tourneys.

The Maricopa High School boys and girls basketball teams won their first round games in their respective sectional tournaments.

The girls defeated Queen Creek, 82-55, Tuesday night in Division II Section VI play. It was the second time this season the Rams defeated the Bulldogs.

Next up is eighth-ranked Mesa. That game is tonight at 5:15 at Marcos de Niza High School. The Rams, ranked sixth in Division II, lost to the Jackrabbits by 20 points in December.

The MHS girls are 22-5 overall.

Over in Division III Section V, the Maricopa boys defeated Blue Ridge, 74-53, Wednesday. The Rams had defeated the Yellowjackets less than a month ago by a much tighter score.

The Rams play second-ranked Scottsdale Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. at Valley Christian High School.

Maricopa is 17-10 overall.
