An online credit card blog has named Maricopa the eighth best American city for veterans.

NerdWallet placed three Arizona cities in the top 10. All cities had higher than average veteran populations and were near at least one military base and had relatively easy access to services. The other Arizona cities making the list were Goodyear and Sierra Vista.

The blog’s study describes Maricopa as “near Luke Air Force Base, Sky Harbor Air National Guard Base, Phoenix Vet Center, Phoenix VA Health Care System and West Valley Vet Center. Maricopa is 35 miles from the former Williams Air Force Base, which shut down in 1993. The space is now used for businesses, colleges and the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.”

The report also lists the services available in nearby Maricopa County.

NerdWallet lists Maricopa’s veteran population as 14.3 percent. The median income for Maricopa veterans is $49,093.
