Maricopa businessman Paul Long, 34, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 6, and booked in Pinal County Jail for 10 counts of alleged sexual exploitation of a minor.

The charges suggest Long was involved in “distributing, transporting, exhibiting, receiving, selling, purchasing, electronically transmitting, possessing or exchanging visual depictions in which a minor is engaged in exploitive exhibition or other sexual conduct.”

Police descended on the suspect’s place of business, the DVD and Game Depot, at 44400 West Honeycutt Road around 1 p.m. yesterday, apprehending Long and taking possession of computers and other material.

At the same time police seized evidence from Long’s Casa Grande home.

Forensic reviews of the equipment sized revealed hundreds of sexually explicit images of children, according to a news release from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department.

Police learned about Long’s alleged activities on Nov. 17, 2010 when it was discovered that an unknown subject utilized a wireless Internet connection to download and view hundreds of sexually explicit images of children.

Detectives and forensic technicians from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Computer Crimes Unit, along with assistance from detectives at the Maricopa Police Department and Apache Junction Police Department, were able to identify Long as the subject.

Long allegedly conducted this activity while at his place of business in Maricopa.

During an interview, Long admitted to downloading and viewing these images for the past ten years and engaging in attempts to conceal his activity from law enforcement detection.

The investigation is ongoing and other charges are pending, according to the MCSO release.
