On June 1, at 12:02 a.m., the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 53000 block of Prickly Pear Road in Maricopa regarding a stabbing.

When deputies arrived on scene, they spoke to the adult male victim who had multiple stab wounds and cuts. He was later transported to Maricopa Medical Center where he underwent surgery as a result of his wounds.

During the investigation it was determined the victim and several individuals were at his residence drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. Around 11:30 p.m. all of the friends had left except for the Linda Burchfield (age 22 of Mesa). The victim and Burchfield proceeded to have consensual sexual intercourse in his bedroom.

After they were done, Burchfield began to argue with the victim and began asking him where he kept his money. The victim refused to tell her so she told him to roll over and she would give him a back massage. As Burchfield began to rub the victims back with one hand, she proceeded to cut his throat with a fishing fillet knife she had in the other hand.

The victim was able to get up, but Burchfield was still holding the knife and positioned herself between him and the door to the bedroom preventing his exit. The victim and Burchfield got into a physical fight over the knife, and the victim was able to get it away from her. The victim stated he could not open the door because his hands were too bloody so he had to knock it down to escape. The victim then ran to his parents’ trailer down the street and called 9-1-1.

Linda Burchfield was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for wounds she sustained as they were fighting over the knife. On Thursday Burchfield was released from the hospital; she was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for aggravated assault.
