The Rams jumped out to an early lead against the Florence High School Gophers and never looked back, as they eased to a 66-52 victory Tuesday night.

Senior Brittany Parks, with 15 points, led Maricopa, which improved its records to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in regional play. She also nabbed a team high five steals.

Early in the game Parks was able to steal the ball off a Gopher pass and score two points on a fast break lay up. The score opened up the night for the Rams, who were able to hold Florence to only one point in the first quarter. Julia Dickerson, who led Maricopa with seven rebounds and scored ten points, was also able to contribute with a well-timed three point shot, helping boost the Rams to a 16-1 first quarter lead.

The Gophers were able to turn themselves around in the second quarter as they quickly came out and scored six unanswered points. However, the Rams were able to regain their composure, as Erin Litchfield and Amanda Hamm were able to make significant contributions both offensively and defensively. Each finished the game with 14 points. At halftime, the Rams led 35-15.

The second half was very much a continuation of the first. The Gophers would score in spurts, but the Rams were able to answer through a tenacious defense. Ultimately, the final score of the game was not truly indicative of the play throughout the evening. Dominant in every aspect of the game, the Rams coasted through much of the second half, making sure they kept the game well out of reach.

Next up for the Rams is a trip to Globe High School on Friday, when they will put their undefeated regional record on the line.
