A thief who happens to be a good climber could have made off with copper tubing from several air conditioners from the roofs of businesses near Bashas.’

Dameon Miller, a maintenance contractor hired by Zell Commercial Real Estate, reported to Maricopa Police he was contacted by the company to check the air conditioning units on top the building for damage, according to an MPD investigation report.

Miller told police he had inspected 10 units and found that an 18-inch section of copper drainage pipe had been removed from each of them.

The maintenance contractor said he was not sure when the thefts occurred, and that the units above Blockbuster had already been repaired.

Miller told police either someone used a tall ladder or accessed the fire riser room to get to the roof, and that there is a combination look on the door to the room and all the tenants are given a code to that their HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) contractors can access the units.
