Police investigating shots fired near Rotary Pool

Maricopa Police officers at about 5 a.m. Friday responded to the area of 44000 W. Burkett St. near the Rotary Pool for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, two men stated a dark-colored car drove up next to them as they were stopped at a stop sign, according to a press release from MPD.

One or two masked gunmen got out of the suspect car and began firing shots at their vehicle. The alleged victim was able to put his car in reverse and back away from the suspects.

The suspects then got back in their car and drove away in an unknown direction. There was possibly an additional suspect car which followed the main suspect car into the area. There were no injuries in the incident.

Later that morning a forenics team was conducting an investigation at the sene, which had been closed off with yellow crime scene tape. The investigation has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Section of the police department.
