In an effort to encourage residents to get active, the City of Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Libraries (PRL) Department is planning a community event for Maricopa families.

The inaugural Recreation Days sponsored by Shamrock Dairy Farms and Hickman’s Egg Ranch will be held Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rotary Park and Pool just east of SR 347 on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Children and adults alike will be able to register for City-sponsored sports and recreation classes as well as the myriad of other organizations such as Maricopa Little League and American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) that will be represented. The City-sponsored programs being offered include CPR, Dance, NFL Youth Flag Football and Water Coloring.

In addition, Mark Wayland, owner of All Wet Scuba in Tempe, will present Discover Scuba from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The introduction to scubadiving class is open to everyone and free of charge.

“We also have a few other surprises in the works,” says Martin McDonald, director of the PRL Department. “In addition to scuba and youth sports registrations, you’ll be able to swim for free, participate in old-fashioned picnic games and have a good ol’ time!”
