The eastbound lane on MCG Highway between SR 347 and Pershing Street will see closures Wednesday and Thursday.

The City of Maricopa is alerting motorists to upcoming traffic delays anticipated next week.

On Tuesday, during the Great American 4th celebration at Copper sky, Amtrak is scheduled to stop in the from 9:05 to 9:20 p.m. During this time traffic on State Route 347 will be blocked. If you are traveling during this time please plan on using Farrell Road to Porter Road or Peters and Nall Road and White-Parker Road as alternate routes.

The City of Maricopa will be providing complimentary shuttle service for the Great American 4th event, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. The following seven pick-up locations are available throughout the city: Santa Rosa Elementary School, Santa Cruz Elementary School, Maricopa Wells Middle School, Butterfield Elementary School, Ace Hardware (ADA Access), Saddleback Elementary School, and Maricopa Elementary School.

Wednesday and Thursday, lane closure is planned on eastbound Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from SR 347 to Pershing Street. Traffic will still be able to get through in both directions, but delays are possible. The lane closure is for utility relocation in preparation for the SR 347 Overpass Project.

Head to www.OverpassTracker.com for an overview of the project, frequent updates on traffic impacts, project timelines, maps and videos of what the project will look like when complete. The City of Maricopa has also established a 24/7 Hotline for answers to more specific questions or concerns at 520-316-6910.

The SR 347 Overpass will create a bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR.) Traffic on SR 347 averages more than 31,000 vehicles per day and future (2040) projections show over 60,000 vehicles per day. There are currently 40 to 60 trains per day; the UPRR has plans to expand service, which would increase train traffic upwards of 100 trains per day. Additionally, the Amtrak station is located just west of the intersection and vehicular traffic is routinely delayed for its passenger operations. The completion of the Overpass project will drastically ease traffic congestion and increase safety in the area.
