Maricopa Youth Football holding final registration Saturday

The non-profit Maricopa Youth Football League will be holding its final registration for the fall season this Saturday. Late registration is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, with an additional $25 fee.

Participation in the league is open to every Maricopa area boy and girl from ages 7-14 (as of June 1, 2009). Divisions include the following:

Mighty Mites: 7-8 years old up to 95 pounds to unlimited weight with stripper rule
Junior Peewee: 9-10 years old up to 125 pounds to unlimited weight with stripper rule
Peewee: 11-12 years old up to 150 pounds to unlimited weight with stripper rule
Junior High: 7th and 8th grade, 13 -14 years old with unlimited weights

The goal of Maricopa Youth Football is to provide a safe and productive environment that enables children to learn and apply the principles of teamwork, discipline, dedication and sportsmanship.

According to Tom Olguin of the MYFL, “Maricopa Youth Football hopes to continue to make a difference to better our community. With the help of supporters, we will continue to see improvements in the development of strength and character in every child who participates. Through our football and cheer programs we have seen many lives changed for the better.”

Registration: (copy of insurance card and birth certificate required)

When: Saturday, May 2 (from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.); late registration on May 9 with $25 late fee
Where: Maricopa Elementary School, 18150 N. Alterra Parkway
Fee: $150 per child
League provides: Game jersey, game pants, helmet and shoulder pads
Parents need to provide: Insurance, practice jersey, practice pants (league offers them for $25), mouthpiece, socks and cleats

“Bring the kids out, get them signed up, and let’s play some football,” said Olguin. “Let’s continue to build the Maricopa Youth Football tradition.”
