Applications for utility assistance grants will be taken Feb. 4 in Maricopa for residents of Maricopa, Hidden Valley and Stanfield only.

The special intake will take place beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Copa Center, 44585 W. Honeycutt Road in Maricopa. Households must sign in from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The community support has been widespread in bringing this special intake to the area. Community Action Human Resources Agency of Eloy is working with the other local social services agencies to assure the information is received by those who need the assistance.

CAHRA staff and volunteers will meet with low-income individuals who meet income guidelines. The services are aimed at helping households to stretch their income. Only applications for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) utility assistance will be taken. Households needing other services must call for information.

“While we understand that the need is great, we are committed to providing LIHEAP assistance to the most households possible. It is also imperative that persons applying for LIHEAP services come prepared with required documentation so that a determination of eligibility can be made immediately. When we try to accommodate applicants who are unprepared, it cuts down on the numbers of applications we can complete,” Executive Director Mary Lou Rosales said.

Those interested in applying for the Utility Assistance grant, must bring with them their most recent electric and gas bills (all pages of the original bill, paid or unpaid) and the following documentation:

All Household Members – Social Security Cards
All Household Members – Proof of all income received in the last 30 days (if earned income need from Jan. 6 through Feb. 4 (earned or unearned)
Applicant – Identity Verification: Drivers License, Photo Identification
Applicant – Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Legal Resident Status for all household members: Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, unexpired U.S. Passport, verification of current Social Security Disability benefit or Social Security benefit statement, or proof of current legal resident status.

This assistance can be received once every 12 months. If an individual is unsure of their last assistance, they are asked to call the CAHRA receptionist at 520-466-1112.
