Four games into the state Little League championships, the Maricopa team sits with a record of 1-3.

The team won its first game in the tournament against Mount Graham, but hasn’t been able to secure a win since.

After beating Mount Graham last Wednesday they lost to McCormick Ranch on Thursday 10-5.
Thursday’s game could have been much closer if the boys didn’t give up five runs in the first inning.

“We just had one bad inning,” Team Coach Micah Coleman said.

After Thursday’s loss, the boy’s had Friday off and returned to play on Saturday against Desert Ridge.

They lost that game 16-4.

Sunday was another day off for the team and a chance for the boys to have fun – without a ball or a bat.

“One of the boys has an aunt up here who has a swimming pool, tennis court and an arcade. So the boys spent Sunday at her home just having a good time,” Coleman said.

After their day off the boys came back on Monday to play the Ahwatukee team losing a heart breaker in extra inning 4-2.

“The game could of gone either way,” Coleman said.

Despite loss Coleman says the boys are having a good time and enjoying the experience.
The team has two games left – one today against Canyon View and the second on Wednesday against Randolph.

“We hope to play the role of spoiler the next two days,” Coleman said.

Coleman added that he believes if his team members play relaxed and if they are having fun they can beat anyone.

The team arrived in Flagstaff July 16 to participate in the first of a series of games to determine the state Little League champions.
