Maricopa High School senior Kayla Martinez has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Northwest Kansas Technical College.

Kayla is an 5-4 infielder for the Rams. The program at Northwest Tech in Goodland, Kansas, was started this year and will begin play in the 2017 season in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

“We are thrilled to bring softball to an already solid athletic department,” said Ben Schears, Northwest Tech’s president. “Adding a program with strong regional support and a pipeline of players lets us grow the college and bring more female students to campus – a population that is largely underrepresented here.”

Last season as a junior, Kayla batted .425 with 26 runs batted in and 22 runs scored for Maricopa.
