The Maricopa Unified School is proud to announce that Melvin Mitchell has been named as the new head coach for the Maricopa High School Girls’ Basketball program.

Mitchell has eight years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels.

After completing his undergraduate degree at Montana State University, he worked as a graduate assistant for the Montana State men's basketball program.  Mitchell went on to teach and coach football, basketball and track at Northern Cheyenne Tribal School in Busby, Montana.

He also taught in the Baboquivari School District and coached the girls’ basketball program. Last year he was the Maricopa High School girls’ basketball varsity assistant and junior varsity basketball for head coach Kati Burrows.
