Maricopa Police Department (MPD) recently received official notification that they were the recipients of six Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) grants for FY18. This year MPD received the following awards:

DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement: $22,500
o Provides overtime for MPD to conduct additional DUI enforcement details

Accident Investigation Enforcement: $4,600
o Provides advanced accident reconstruction training and overtime for backfill for training

Occupant Protection: $7,443
o Provides overtime for MPD to conduct additional enforcement details and promote passenger/child restraint safety
o Provides funding for more MPD officers to become Child Passenger Safety (CPS) certified technicians
o Purchase car seats

Pedestrian Safety: $4,800
o Provides overtime for MPD to conduct additional enforcement details and promote bike safety
o Purchase bike helmets

Speed and Traffic Enforcement: $20,000
o Provides overtime for MPD to conduct additional STEP enforcement details and provide additional community outreach to increase awareness of traffic laws and safety tips.
o Purchase 4 additional LIDARs
o Purchase 4 Golden Eagle II Dual Antennas

One (1) Speed Trailer: $5,460
o Purchase of Speed Trailer to concentrate speed enforcement efforts
