Businesses at the Maricopa Business Center located on West Honeycutt Road were on a brief lockdown around 2:20 p.m. today as about 10 Maricopa Police officers surrounded a residence across the street.

At 2:55 p.m., an officer said the suspect was under control and the public was safe.

Two witnesses commented on what they observed.

“At first, I saw three police cars drive by real slow,” said John Zolyniak, owner of the Nifty Thrifty thrift store at the business center. “One of the officers told everyone to stay inside.”

Dick Crew, owner of Hair Focus, said an officer warned bystanders to stay inside because he was afraid someone could get hurt with a stray shot.
