A man approached a child getting off the bus in a Maricopa subdivision and offered the child candy to get in his vehicle.

Reportedly, a man in the Lakes at Rancho El Dorado approached a child getting off a Kyrene school bus near Powers Parkway and Anne Lane and offered the child candy to get in his vehicle. The child refused and found help. Police are now on the lookout for the suspect.

“The incident happened near the bus stop, according to the reporting party,” Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricardo Alvarado said. “The individual was described as a black male, wearing a black T-shirt and driving a blue Nissan car. According to the reporting party, the suspicious person offered candy to the victim and pointed to his car. There was no attempt to grab or forcibly remove the victim.”

MPD has released the suspect’s information to officers on patrol as well as surrounding agencies in the area. Police have also added extra patrols near the bus stop during the pickup and drop off times for the bus.
