Department of Public Safety dished out 106 citations to commercial vehicle drivers on State Route 347 Friday.

DPS ran a special detail from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. watching for trucking violations.

Sgt. Steven Sekrecki said two DPS sergeants, three state troopers and four enforcement compliance inspectors with Arizona Department of Transportation participated in the detail. They completed 217 vehicle inspections during those six hours.

Though no speeding citations were issued, 26 vehicles were found to be overweight and eight had to be pulled out of service for having bad tires. There were also six seatbelt violations.

Sekrecki said two drivers had to be removed from service. One allegedly had a false logbook and the other was driving on an invalid license.

Other violations involved air lines, brakes, windshield wipers, lighting and drivers being over hours.

Inspectors pulled trucks to the side of the road for the lengthy procedures. Among comments Sekrecki received from officers in the field was the concern many other drivers on the road did not move over when they approached the inspection site.

Arizona law requires motorists to move over one lane or slow down if a lane change is not possible when passing any vehicle with flashing lights that is stopped on the side of the road (ARS 28-775).
