The annual Prom Boutique provides free dresses and helpful tips.

High school students in Maricopa are invited to the fifth annual Prom Boutique Shopping Event set for Monday and Tuesday.

Presented by Families First CDC, the boutique strives to make prom night affordable by offering complimentary prom dresses, alterations and shoes. This year, for the first time, organizers are also providing help with tuxedo rentals.

“All high school students in Maricopa are invited, no matter where they go to school,” said Bridgett Ratliff, administrative assistant for Families First CDC. “If you’re living in a world where so much has gone wrong, you deserve to have an incredible night.”

The boutique is primarily funded by the Prom Fashion Show, which was on March 18. Ratliff said they had the biggest turnout ever this year.

“So now we can help more kids,” she said.

That adds up to more than 300 prom dresses. Most were donated by Suzanne’s Bridal Boutique in Gilbert. Some are gently used, but others are one-of-kind creations.

“We want to be advisors to these kids,” Ratliff said. “We will help you find the dress that will match your skin and flatter your shape.”

Charming Lioness will be on hand to help the students design their own jewelry. They will get fashion tips and makeup tips. They will also learn formal etiquette and receive some dance lessons.

The event is 2:30-6:30 both nights at Maricopa High School Performing Arts Center, 45012 W. Honeycutt Road.

Registration is $4 in advance at www.PromBoutiqueShoppingEvent.eventbrite.com or $5 at the door. If the registration fee is a financial burden, email [email protected] or call 866-213-6766. If you can sponsor a young lady or gentleman, visit www.ThinkFamiliesFirst.org.
