The Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Library Department, along with Fry’s Marketplace, will stage Maricopa’s first ever youth fishing tournament on July 4th. The event will take place at the Lakes at Province and will start at 8 a.m. and last src=until 11 a.m.

Marty McDonald, Director of Parks, Recreation and Libraries, is especially enthusiastic as the July 4th fishing tournament is “Getting back to traditional events of a small town community” explained McDonald. Based on its theme, stated McDonald, the event also meets the department’s goal to “create community through people, parks and programs.”

There will be a maximum of 100 participants in the free event. The first 100 children between the ages of five and 12 to register will be entered. Registration is Saturday May 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Santa Rosa Elementary School. If all spots are not filled, a second sign-up day will take place at Maricopa Community Library June 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
