Local school supply drives help Maricopa kids

F.O.R. Maricopa will pass out school supplies Saturday with MPD.

Various community organizations will be passing out schools supplies and backpacks over the next week.

On July 29, the F.O.R.  Maricopa Food Bank along with the Maricopa Police Department will disperse 600 backpacks with supplies at Copper Sky from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

A picture I.D. and child’s birth certificate are required. Wendy Webb, executive director of F.O.R., said a WIC card, SNAP card, or other paperwork from the Department of Economic Security for proof of income eligibility is also required at the drive for those who are not already clients of the food bank.

Popcorn and cotton candy will also be available for children at the event.

The Streets Don’t Love You Back organization will be giving away backpacks and supplies Aug. 5 at Maricopa Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The SDLYB backpack drive continues through Aug. 3 with donation locations around Maricopa, including: Nails 4 U Salon, the Post Office, American Family Insurance, InMaricopa, Water and Ice and Baby Fox Academy. Children must be present during the event to receive supplies.

The Tortosa Home Owners Association is collecting school supplies at their office until July 31. Donations will benefit Santa Cruz Elementary and Desert Wind Middle School.
