The Maricopa Police Department arrested two men in the Maricopa Subway Tuesday afternoon for the possession of 600 pounds of marijuana.

While the bust ended in the sandwich shop, it originated in the northbound lane of John Wayne Parkway just past Bowlin Road when a Maricopa officer observed a truck following a second car too closely, according to police department spokeswoman LaTricia Woods.

When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver did not comply and turned into the Bashas’ parking lot.

Once in the parking lot, the driver and a passenger fled the vehicle and took refuge in the Subway restaurant.

Police were able to remove the two suspects without incident.

When officers searched the two men’s vehicle, they discovered several bundles of marijuana weighing more than 600 pounds.

Both men were booked into Pinal County jail on charges of possession and transportation of marijuana.
