Survey says: water play area

At a recent Parks, Recreation and Libraries special advisory committee meeting, J2 Engineering, the firm hired by the city to develop a parks and open space master plan, revealed the results of a survey soliciting the top recreational priorities from residents.

At the top of the list for residents was a water play area, followed closely by playgrounds for kids and a community center.

The survey was conducted at last month’s Founder’s Day and, according to J2 Engineering’s Dean Chambers, the response of 285 surveys was the largest he has seen for a survey of this type.

Chambers also noted that it was the first time in his experience that unpaved trails were not at the top of the list.

The survey was the first step in the process to develop the parks, trails and open space master plan for Maricopa over the next few years.

A public open house to discuss the findings of the survey is the next step and will be an excellent opportunity to get additional feedback from residents.

After the open house J2 Engineering will develop the first draft of the master plan, which will then be presented to the public before the final draft is created.
