Ten of the 12 Maricopa food facilities inspected by Pinal County Environmental Health July 17-Aug. 15 received scores of excellent. Two had minor problems that were dealt with during inspection.

Dunkin’ Donuts had issues with food temperature and hygiene. Egg flats, which should have been no warmer than 41 degrees F were measured at 51 degrees and had to be discarded. The inspector also noted staff with polished fingernails, which are not allowed in food-prep, a situation that was also corrected.

The Silver Spur at The Duke at Rancho El Dorado posted a satisfactory score after observed violations in food-holding temperatures and dated food. The inspector observed a prep table holding food at 52-56 degrees instead of the mandated 41, and a walk-in refrigerator holding food at 50 degrees. Several food items were reported to be seven days past their date marking. The inspector also noted freezer equipment with icicles on the ceiling, ice on the floor and no light.

Two of the nine Maricopa eateries inspected by the Pinal County health department Nov. 16-Dec. 14 received black marks. While the Province Clubhouse had more observed infractions, netting an “S” rating, Sunrise Café received a dreaded “N” for one ongoing problem.

Province had various infractions concerning the hand-wash sink, hand-washing practice and use of gloves. Sunrise Café was dinged for appliances cold holding at 47-49 degrees instead of the required maximum 41 degrees. It was written up for having no food manager certification present, noted as a repeat violation since December 2016.

Five Maricopa food establishments received ticks from Pinal County Environmental Health Oct. 16-Nov. 15. Eleven others got clean reports.

At Dairy Queen, a hand-washing sink did not have water hot enough, and frozen raw hamburger was uncovered next to chicken patties, with fries/onion rings strewn about the freezer basket. Freddy’s had M&M candies spilled into moldy lemons, and staff was told to clean storage area to remove old droppings from a previous mouse problem. JB Farmer’s Convenience Store was nicked for having beef and chicken from an unapproved source. The New HQ had items in the cold prep table that were above the allowable temperature of 41 degrees. At Subway, one cold-holding unit was also above 41 degrees.
