“The Streets Don’t Love You Back” author Robert Boyd Jr. will host a five-week intervention program of at the Maricopa/Stanfield Justice Court starting Monday.

Boyd has conducted this intervention program in prisons and halfway houses across Phoenix. Boyd began the program with his wife Lucinda in conjunction with his book in 2009. He has been acting as the organization’s chief executive officer since.

Rob Boyd has lived in Maricopa since 2009. Lucinda Boyd has lived in the area for nearly 30 years. The two felt the need to bring this program to the city they call home in order to help any lucky residents in need.

“We’re glad it’s in our community,” Robert Boyd said. “This will be the first time this program is in Maricopa, and we’re happy to be involved with our community.”

The first week addresses substance abuse and negative decision making. The second week features anger management and solving conflicts. The third week is self improvement for attitudes and behaviors, while the fourth week requires participants to set new goals. Finally, the fifth week will “bring it all together,” and attendees will graduate

The motto of the program states, “You can become anyone you want to be! It doesn’t matter what happened to you or what you have done! All that matters is what you do next!”

Boyd lives by this motto, and he uses his experience and mistakes while growing up in Detroit to help participants in his program straighten out their lives

The first class will be from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday at the Maricopa/Stanfield Justice Court
