Time to play ball; Little League registration slated

Maricopa Little League will be hosting two open registration dates in January to recruit players ages five to 14.

The league features five age brackets: T-ball machine-pitch ages 6-8; minors ages 8-10; majors ages 10-12; and juniors ages 13-14, for both boys and girls.

“Last year we grouped together girls’ minors and majors, but this year we decided to break them out,” said league spokesman Victor Gonzalez.

The T-ball and machine-pitch players begin their season Jan. 11, while the other age brackets begin their seasons in February. All games this year will be played at Pacana Park on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays.

Cost for the T-ball season is $50; machine pitch is $60; and all others $80. Included in price is a jersey and hat the players get to keep, and all equipment with the exception of cleats and a glove.

All of the teams play 12-game seasons with the exception of T-ball and machine pitch, which play eight-game seasons.

Registration will be held at the Maricopa Walmart, 41650 West Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, Jan. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m., and Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We are looking forward to another exciting season of Maricopa Little League,” Gonzalez said.
