Fun events, educational events, good causes and important government meetings are all part of this week’s activities. Highlights include the annual Maricopa Relay for Life, Crime Victim Rights Awareness Week, a Star Wars-themed fund-raiser at UltraStar and a special ceremony on the Maricopa campus of Central Arizona College.

MONDAY
Age-Friendly Maricopa Advisory Committee
meets at 4 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. Discussion items include the 2016 General Plan update, transportation priorities, a Senior Resource Center Worksheet and a proposal for the Copa Center from the Future Teenage Leaders.

McTeacher Night is from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at McDonald’s on John Wayne Parkway. Santa Rosa Elementary School staff will be serving dinner inside for a fund-raiser.

TUESDAY
ADOSH Heat Safety Webinar
is 9-10:30 a.m. Learn some valuable preventative measures and lifestyle changes that will help you and your employees “keep your cool” while working in the summer.

Victims’ Rights Kick-Off Event is from 10 to 11 a.m. on the steps of Maricopa City Hall, 29700 W. Civic Center Plaza.

Maricopa City Council meets in a work session at 6 p.m. followed by the regular session at 7 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 29700 W. Civic Center Plaza. The regular agenda includes appointments to the Heritage District Advisory Committee. The consent agenda includes a grant application for improving Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway between Porter Road and White & Parker Road.

WEDNESDAY
Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board
meets at 6:30 p.m. in the administration building board room, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy. Items up for action include salary schedules for certified and administrative employees and hiring an elementary teacher for gifted students. There will also be an update on Pima Butte Elementary’s math/language arts progress, and a special recognition for resigning board member Leslie Carlyle-Burnett.

THURSDAY
Central Arizona College’s Maricopa Campus
, 17945 N. Regent Drive, hosts an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. for project team members who earned national recognition in the 2015 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel.

Senior Night for Maricopa High School Girls Softball Team is at 4 p.m. before the final home game against Ironwood Ridge.

FRIDAY
Kindergarten Parent Café
starts at 8:30 a.m. at Maricopa Elementary School, 18150 N. Alterra Parkway. Students will share with their parents what they are doing in class.

Movies Under the Stars is at 6 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center, 16000 Maricopa Road. Free feature movie is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

d/Deaf Social Evening “Here Us. Hear Us” is 6:30-9: p.m. at Copper Sky Multigenerational Complex. All are invited to come and learn about d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing issues, practice American Sign Language, watch a closed-captioned movie and enjoy refreshments. Admission $2.

SATURDAY
Jerry Good Victim Rights Awareness Project
is 9-11 a.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. The morning includes information, vendors and speakers.

Star Wars: A New Hope for Kids charity event is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center, 16000 Maricopa Road. Action will include the two new Star Wars Battle Pods and Star Wars characters in costume. A $10 wrist band benefits HopeKids charity.
