The Maricopa Youth Council heard a presentation on the General Plan during its meeting at the Copper Sky Multigenerational Complex Tuesday night.

General Plan Project Manager Dana Burkhardt used charts and maps of the city to demonstrate how the city would change over the next 25 years.

City updates include expanded transportation, agriculture and quality of life. Youth Council members offered suggestions and minor tweaks, but agreed with the city’s vision overall.

The Youth Council also began planning the City of Maricopa Youth Town Hall meeting, set for March 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Copper Sky.

Maricopa City Council members Henry Wade and Vincent Manfredi were in attendance, as was Flood Control District President Dan Frank, who chaired the city’s Vision 2040 committee.

Wade announced community events for Black History Month, including a community forum on “Policing/Citizen’s Rights.” The event will take place on Feb. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Copper Sky. Maricopa Police Chief Steve Stahl is scheduled to speak at the event, and Wade encouraged all middle school to young adults to attend.

Before the meeting adjourned, the council also discussed volunteering at the 12th annual Salsa Festival and Relay for Life events.

The Youth Council will reconvene on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m.
