A passenger was killed overnight Tuesday in a head-on collision on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The two drivers were injured in the crash about 1:55 a.m. near Russell Road, according to Maricopa police.

An initial MPD investigation on scene indicated a white pickup truck crossed the center line in a no passing zone and struck a car head on, police said.

The passenger pronounced dead at the scene was riding in the front seat of the car, according to police.

The truck driver was thrown from his vehicle and later airlifted to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said. The car’s driver was taken by ambulance to a Chandler hospital.

Units from Casa Grande Police Department and Pinal County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

According to PCSO, which is leading the primary investigation, impairment appears to be a contributing factor in the cause.

Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway has reopened to regular traffic, PCSO said.
